Happy Chinese New Year

Another one has now gone by (my third here in China) and it has changed since my first. Chinese New Year is by far the most important festival and holiday (equivalent to Christmas) in China and besides families getting together and eating more food than is good for you, the fireworks are incredible. Beijing last year lifted a ban on fireworks and so they are enjoying them again but our local government has imposed a ban except during the New Year festivals. Before, there would be fireworks every morning at around 5.30 (usually when someone died) and then again at 6.30am for new shops opening or weddings and any other small happening was an excuse for some bangs. So it was always noisy but now just New Year which lasts for about a week so it has become very impressive.

Some photos of my birthday dinner with Mei and her son and some fireworks and wandering around the park and later some temples in the evening.
